Disaster in the form of fog! We arrived at the airport at 3AM, a bit early for our 6AM flight. As soon as we checked in, we learned that our flight wouldnt be departing until 8AM. We sat at the gate and watched other flights leave, even one to Philadelphia - our connecting destination. Finally 10 minutes before 8, our flight boarded for the approximately 35 minute trip to Pennsylvania.
FIVE HOURS LATER: we were still circling the airspace around Philadelphia airport. Our small 50 seater plane had to make an emergency landing in nearby Scranton airport as we were running out of gas. Finally at 2PM we landed in Philadelphia. Since we had missed our 9AM connection five hours ago, we were at the mercy of US Airways to reschedule our route to Phoenix. Since they had no other flights to PHX, they rescheduled us to Delta airlines.
We raced over to catch a 3:45 flight at the Delta terminal - it was delayed. At 5:50 we boarded a plane BACK to JFK for the last departing flight to PHX of the day. Our connecting flight was to depart at 7:20, the flight we were on board landed at 7:45. We were now stuck at JFK, our only option being a flight out to LAX, where we would have a 8 hour layover. We spent Sunday night at home, in Brooklyn.
